For two to three-and-a-half weeks, teenagers at a Maine summer camp traded their devices for outdoor activities and face-to-face friendships . By the end,   their mental health had improved   - with the largest gains among those who arrived struggling. The findings add to research suggesting that relief from constant connectivity can produce benefits surprisingly quickly. They also raise a question -  How much of it depends on what replaces the screen? The  study , published in  Mental Health & Prevention , assessed 192 adolescents attending a device-free residential camp. Researchers included scientists from Sapien Labs and UC San Diego. Participants' composite mental-health scores improved by an average of 10.1 points  between arrival and departure. Those starting with mental-health struggles recorded a median improvement of 27 points. We all know that Youtube records what you watch and profiles you based on your watch history.  It feeds you a neverending stream of  videos to consume your attention.  I think the AI is meant to do this on a more personal and individualistic level. Yesterday, I was perusing Godlike Productions as I typically do.  I was reading a thread on JonBenet Ramsey with all the various theories.  She never existed.  She's Katy Perry.  The brother did it.  Another family did it.  More conspiracy theories than JFK. Of course, when I came back to Youtube within the hour, I was being fed JonBenet Ramsey videos.  So, the alien intelligence AI is constantly profiling us across all platforms...desperate to model manKIND.

 One of my best childhood memories was walking to the local penny candy shop, perusing the  glass dishes filled with goodies, and making my choices.  These were placed in a small brown paper bag for my enjoyment.  Priceless memories which this video helped to recall.

 I have a feeling that this has been going on for some time now. Meat   substitutes for vegetarians , vegans, and anyone who abstains from meat have grown massively in recent years. Companies like  Beyond  and Impossible Foods have grown in popularity by mimicking the savory flavors and textures of animal meat—all from plants. I recently had another gopher attack taking out all but one of my cabbages, the remaining carrots, and even my dill which I have never had eaten before. Anyway, imagine my surprise when I went out yesterday to an old woodpile that was disintegrating and found pounds of honey mushrooms growing.  I used to pick these as a teenager with my Dad and uncles in the hills of Pennsylvania.  In Pennsylvania, we always had to be careful about copperhead snakes which we encountered not infrequently near the down trees.  That's not a problem where I now live.  As a follow up to this post, one of the key elements of mushroom identification is the spore print.  Honey mushrooms have a white spore print.  I put my picked mushrooms in a brown paper bag and was hoping to find my brown bag covered in white spores.  Unfortunately, this is what I found.... It seems that whenever I venture off the compound, I have an unusual encounter.  I ventured out to buy some limes today.  I stopped for gas on the way.  I was filling my gas tank listening to a podcast with ear buds on....not exactly inviting an interaction.   I kept hearing someone shouting behind me, HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI....to the point of it having to turn around to see what was going on.   I turned around and there was a car pulled in next to me.  In the  back seat sat a young blonde boy in a car seat, maybe 4 years old.  He was frantically waving at me and continuing to shout HI HI HI.   I smiled, waved and said HI HI HI.   I smiled in wonder.  He kept watching me as to what I was doing, intermittently waving.  I waved back.  I finished, smiled at him, and went to buy my limes.  I wonder why he wanted to make contact with me and for me to acknowledge his presence.

This blog has had a ridiculously high number of views this month, sometimes up to 2500 views a day.  I am now wondering if it is a target for Blogger's new policies rolled out this morning.

At the flea market yesterday morning, I found the last Roy Orbison 45 that I was looking for...Crying. What are the odds that when I come home, the following Roy Orbison documentary was waiting for me? I also think that those who immerse themselves in this civilization either  lose their sense of humanity or are subjected to immense trauma.  I believe Orbison was one of those.  First wife died in car crash.  Two children burned alive in a house fire.  Died of a massive heart attack. My own personal experience in this place is that the less that I interact with it, the less chaos and trauma in my life.

This torso reminds me of the Templars divining through the head of John the Baptist....and is beyond creepy.   For a moment, consider who or what is driving society in this direction...  I was at the flea market and saw a book on the New Orleans world fair.  I put it back and walked around a bit more.  After I got home, I thought to myself that I should have bought it and will go back next week. Last night I had a dream that I was at the flea market and asked the dealer about where the books were.  He pointed me in the direction.  I found a shoebox filled with small black and white photos of some toddler from the 1960's.  It could have been me, but it wasn't. I just pondered how some things that were once dear to someone ends up in a stranger's flea market stand. Perhaps it is one of the many reasons that I am drawn to flea markets.  A handwritten inscription in a book, someone writing their name on a record sleeve, a book of family photos....all relics of a prior life or lives.
