That's alot of meets. Especially for someone that doesn't live in an entertainment city where you can just randomly bump into a celebrity. Out of that list who was the nicest and who were the rude jerks?
ReplyDeleteI never go out now.. but in my youth I was in Boston, NYC, DC, Baltimore all the time....and I am old so I have lived alot of life. In med school I lived 2 blocks from the Kennedy Center and we got discounted tickets. So I was there several nights a week at least. My brother lived on the upper East side, so I was in NYC alot. That's a great question...most people just signed or were gracious. Of note George Allen as head coach of the Redskins specifically pulled his car over to talk with me and my brother and sign autographs. I was 12 years old. Cosell was brusque but still signed. Don Meredith and Frank Gifford were much nicer. My parents took us to the Canton Football Hall of Fame in 1973. Gifford, Cosell, and Meredith were covering the game for ABC. Glen Campbell was the special guest in the parade. At the induction ceremony, we sat right behind George Halas, Art Rooney, Lamar Hunt. etc. I asked them to just sign my autograph book and just pass it down the row. That would never happen today. Times were so different. Even at the Kennedy Center or Symphony Hall in Boston, you could just wait by the stage door. This is where I met Dustin Hoffman, Bill Cosby, Al Pacino, and many others. Daryl Hall also had his driver pull his car over to sign the setlist for me. Very nice. Sinead O'Connor opened up the bus window and signed an index card for me. That was in Providence, RI. I had 2 people refuse me, and their managers pushed my CD in front of them and said "Sign it." This was Van Morrison in Providence and Bunny Wailer in Boston. The only one who outright refused to sign was Yul Brynner at the Kennedy Center. He was in the audience to see Pacino's play..I think it was American Buffalo with a hot young babe. I approached him after the play and he just said no. Very unusual. As you can probably tell...I have A LOT of stories..haha...thanks for your comment, best, db
