Kristin Hersh

One of the artists that I respect most for their integrity through the decades is Kristin Hersh.   Kristin fronted Throwing Muses, solo work, and Fifty Foot Wave.  I have met and spoke with her dozens of times.  She was always gracious, kind and accommodating.  I have seen her perform in all of her incantations.

This interview is moving, honest, and revealing, typical of Kristin.  She spoke about a different personality that took her over when she performs.  She has no recollection of it.   I witnessed this many many times in concert.  She would move her head and neck side to side in a hypnotic fashion.  It reminds me of a King Cobra.   She pretty much confirmed the dissociation in the below interview.  She was totally different offstage...quiet, shy, and softspoken.

I remain fascinated by these performers and their channeling of energies.

My favorite lyric is from Teeth.

"This hairdo's truly evil.  I'm not sure it's mine."

Teeth
a piece of meat
From a barren tree
Nothing ever spoiled on me
You brought this
You dipshit
I could get
Nothing ever spoiled on me
That cloud stomps around my house
Does whatever it pleases
It teases me
Till you stepped in

Never dried my halters on the line
This hairdo's truly evil
I'm not sure it's mine
You're so tall
What the hell?
Never was a baritone
It's like I climb a waterfall
That cloud stomps around my house
Does whatever it pleases
It teases me
What I said was get me a drink
Alright?
What am I supposed to sit
And look at you all night?
All girls cry
Like I said, I don't know why
