Animating cartoons...is the process believable?

As a huge fan of cartoons, I am very skeptical of the process we are given as to how these cartoons are produced.  The idea of the process itself seems supernatural.  The skills and complexity of process also seem beyond human capability.  Similar to classical music, the production of these cartoons just seems .....unbelievable.

And....all of this during the Great Depression.
Is this about "making money" or is something else going on here?

  1. Impressive how they got the audio to match up with movements and vocals, and how they captured the drawings on film camera back then. I have seen graphic design people make cartoons and it is a huge effort drawing each movement. Kinda odd that even during the war these cartoons and movies were being produced, not many households had a tele.

    1. Thanks for your comment. It is another element of this civilization that makes no sense to me. Also, the quality of animation deteriorated significantly in the 1960's with Hanna Barbera...supposedly during a time of economic boom. Why was such intense effort using so many people employed to make a 5 minute cartoon? I don't have the answer...just the question. Best regards, db.
