   a place regarded in various religions as the abode of God (or the gods) and the angels, and of the good after death, often traditionally depicted as being above the sky.

   "those who practiced good deeds would receive the reward of a place in heaven"

The concept of Heaven remains alien to me.  I see it as a coping mechanism or therapy to deal with the trauma, pain, and amnesia of this realm.  

The cruelty of never being given an explanation for this place...no set of instructions never ceases to amaze me.  We are attached to family, friends, and loved ones by our caring human emotions...only to have them mysteriously leave this place without understanding or explanation.  Most then seek to create a pleasant understanding of this trauma in order to continue on and function in this realm.  Emotions and questions are now swept under the rug as we have been given a concocted explanation. 

We have no evidence for this so-called heaven.  Most hope that they will re-unite with loved ones, pets, relatives, etc.   They are looking for some explanation for the trauma they undergo in their life, desperately clinging to some optimistic future. 

They are given the concept of heaven, where they are surely destined to be where all is good and just, where all will be reunited, where the pain and suffering of this realm will not exist. 

Count me as a non-believer.
